Summary: | The corpus of the early 20th-century theologian Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy is relatively unusual, because it includes, amid his works of theology, a novel, I Pronounce Them, published in 1927. This should not, on account of its status as fiction, be discounted from consideration of Studdert Kennedy's theology, because it illuminates his work at a number of levels. This article represents the first full treatment of this novel: it outlines characterisation within it and the social issues that it raises, before indicating precisely how it contributes to an understanding of Studdert Kennedy's life and thought. |
