The attribution of the Song of Songs to Solomon in the superscription highlights the sapiential dimension of the Song, while the title ~yryvh ryv alludes to a mystical function, in analogy to the temple. But the superscription also calls to mind contrasting images of Solomon in the O.T., which lead the reader to interpret the central metaphor of the Song – the exclusive love relation – in context of the relation between YHWH and Israel and of the expectation of messianic salvation. |
