Description
Summary:Russia and the Universal Church is the best known work by Vladimir Soloviev. Polemical in tone at times, marked by the opposition of it's author to the doctrine of the slavophiles, the work is essentially studied for it's ecclesiology, which leads ist author to recognize the Pope's role. One gernerally gives less importance to the doctrine of Church-State relations that Soloviev proposes. Rejecting the "Cesaro-papsim" of the Russian Empire without for as much adhering to the catholic doctrine of ecclesiastical public law, Soloviev pleads for a "free an universal theocracy" in which the Church has primacy over civil authority
