| Σύνοψη: | In the Hebrew Bible certain individuals or groups are endowed with spirit to perform extraordinary deeds. The gift of God’s spirit functions as legitimation for leaders or prophets. For the end of time a universal outpouring of the Spirit on all mankind is expected (Joël 3), in Israel this event provokes prophecy for all, for women and men, old and young people. The democratization of prophecy, understood as office of mediation and communication between God and his people, means, that prophecy itself becomes obsolete, because nobody requires anymore a mediator for communicate with God. Early Christianity understands the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the beginning of those “last days” and reads Joël 3 as realized in the new, universal people of God to which all believers in Christ belong. Referring to this enthusiastic experience, Paul envisages a church with many charismas which are united in their divine origin and their aim to build up the community. Luke explicitly quotes Joël 3 and underscores the Spirit as giver of all ministries in the church. However, he also reflects the developing institutionalizing of ecclesial ministries with reference to the Hebrew Bible. This latter development continued and led to a hierarchical structure in the church. As a necessary correction, those biblical traditions should be activated which speak about the Spirit in all believers and about charisma as the prerequisite for ministry. |
