In this he accords with the principles set forth by Dionysius of Halicarnassus, Diodorus, Pseudo-Longinus, and Quintilian. In the narrative portions of his paraphrase of the Bible he not only takes liberties with the actual details but he carefully avoids non sequiturs and digressions within a given episode, preserves continuity on a given subject once he has begun it, adheres to a logical and temporal sequence and a causal relationship between events, provides a smoother transition between episodes, clarifies connections, omits or abbreviates embarrassing details, answers anti-Jewish charges, increases the dramatic tension in a rhetorically sophisticated manner, enhances romantic elements, maintains the emphasis on key figures, adds to the greatness of Moses in particular, increases respect for non-Jewish leaders, avoids duplications, avoids discrepancies and contradictions, and explains details that are not apparent from the biblical text.
