Description
Summary:This study synthetically presents a state of the question about the recent research on the relations between the Jesuits and the Islam in modern Spain. To this end, successively it is dealt here with the question of the conversion of the “moriscos”, the Jesuits of that ethnicreligious origin, mainly Juan de Albotodo and Ignatius de las Casas, and finally the apostolic activity in North Africa and in Spain with captives, slaves and traders. In a second instance it is being dealt with the problems that this ministry presented to the recently founded Society, indicating certain innovative elements in the theology of the mission, such as the need, felt especially by de las Casas, of a wider knowledge of the Islamic culture and of the Koranic studies. In a last section it is tackled the famous question of the books known as “libros plúmbeos del Sacromonte” which raises the islamo-christian syncretism (cfr. F. J. Martínez Medina, Cristianos y musulmanes en la Granada del siglo XVI, una ciudad intercultural. Intervenciones de reliquias y libros plúmbeos: el Sacromonte).
