Eine Grundthese des Aufsatzes lautet, dass Vergebung nicht nur vergangenheitsorientiert angesichts offenkundiger moralischer Verfehlungen Thema werden kann, sondern sich auch prophylaktisch auf den Umgang mit zu erwartenden Schädigungen jenseits eines klaren Verursacherprinzips richten darf. Das wird an zwei Beispielen ausgeführt: der Arzt-Patienten-Beziehung und dem Umgang mit dem Lebensende. | ||

In the world of medicine, concerned with the good, forgiveness is particularly helpful because this field of work deals especially with intimacy, risks, judgments, and the precarious relationship of the apparent and the concealed person matters of existential relevance. A primary thesis of this essay maintains that forgiveness does not only address apparent moral offenses in an orientation toward the past. It may also be prophylactic in the handling of expected damages beyond the principle of personal responsibility. This second possibility will be examined through two examples: the doctor-patient-relationship and the treatment of the end of life. | ||
