| Summary: | This article analyzes the question of the relationship between Christianity and late modernity. It begins with Peter L. Berger's analyses, especially in his recent works, to then question his religious pluralism / religious uncertainty dialectic and his idea of the oscillation of the contemporary followers of religions between relativism and fundamentalism. By showing that Berger's analyses, based on his approach in the sociology of knowledge, leave aside the aspect considered by himself as central to the religious phenomenon, this article tries to characterize this aspect, which is the mystical type of religious experience, by exploiting elements from Rudolf Otto's phenomenology of religion and John Wesley's evangelical theology. Cet article analyse la question du rapport entre le christianisme et la modernité avancée. Il part des analyses de Peter L. Berger, spécialement dans ses ouvrages récents, pour porter ensuite un regard critique sur sa dialectique pluralisme religieux / incertitude religieuse et son idée de l'oscillation des adeptes contemporains des religions entre relativisme et fondamentalisme. En montrant que les analyses de Berger, fondées sur son approche en sociologie de la connaissance, laissent de côté l'aspect que lui-même considère comme central dans le phénomène religieux, cet article essaie de caractériser cet aspect qu'est l’expérience religieuse de type mystique, en exploitant des éléments tirés de la phénoménologie de la religion de Rudolf Otto et de la théologie évangélique de John Wesley. |
