This emphasizes the necessity of a philosophical critique of the theological use of any concept. The author extends his analysis to the use of the concept of "transubstantiation" in Eucharistic theology. By assisting theologians in adjusting what they say to what they mean, philosophers remain on the margins of theology, but as interested spectators and their contribution can only be made under theological supervision - hence under the supervision of fundamental theology. If there is to be real rigorousness in theology and philosophy, then philosophical hermeneutics of theological texts and critical interpretation of philosophical texts by theologians are not an option, but an imperative. | ||
