Summary: | The relationship between Paul and the Galatians is marked by a polemic that is significantly stronger than the polemic aimed at the Judaizing teachers. However, Paul couches the polemic against the Galatians in the Hellenistic philosophical discourse on friendship. This allows him to be candid in his pointing to Galatian failures, but furthermore, it allows Paul to develop his apostolic ministry as a relationship between equals while at the same time pointing out that the foreign teachers can only offer a patron-client-relationship at best, slavery at worst. |
