Description
Summary:The concept of Europäische Religionsgeschiche (European History of Religion) has been in existence for more than twenty years now. As a starting point, this article focuses on the status quo of contemporary research within the German-speaking Study of Religions, especially within the field of European histories of religions. Subsequently, the concept of Europäische Religionsgeschichte is discussed and evaluated in its status as master narrative proposing a methodological and theoretical extrapolation. In the conclusion, we show the implications that the implementation of our approach to the religious histories within Europe would have in relation to content, research politics and research practices.
