Both in the Bible and in old eastern codices there exist regulations how to deal with blind persons. For an occupational group within the cultic area however blindness seems to be a kind of quality criterion, which was possibly straight suited by the physical handicap to receive and interpret the Lord’s message better than seeing humans. Blindheit bzw. Sehschwäche ist heute wie in der antiken Welt eine Behinderung, die viele Probleme mit sich bringt. Bei über 75-Jährigen ist der „Graue Star“ („Cataracta senilis“) im Bereich der Augen mit zu über 90 % die häufigste Diagnose. In der Antike gab es keine Aussicht auf Heilung. Sowohl in der Bibel als auch in altorientalischen Codices finden sich Richtlinien für den Umgang mit Blinden. Aber für eine Berufsgruppe im kultischen Bereich scheint gerade Blindheit eine Art Qualitätsmerkmal zu sein, um Gottes Botschaft besser als sehende Menschen aufzunehmen und zu deuten. |
