Summary: | It is suggested that the difficulties in Qoh 8,5-7 stem from Qohelet’s fear of the Ptolemaic administration and his fear that obedience to the secular law would replace obedience to God’s law. These two fears compelled Qohelet to formulate his thoughts in a manner which might suggest that he advocates obedience to the king, when in reality he argues for following God’s commandments and avoiding the evils of the Ptolemaic rule. |
