Description
Summary:The Temple Scroll is a text that offers an interpretation of the Torah which differs significantly from the Deuteronomic law even though the language of the Temple Scroll borrows heavily from Deuteronomy in terms of style and vocabulary. The purpose of the Scroll seems to be the critique of a Jewish society unfaithful to the Law and the Temple. It offers a new ideology of presenting a Law not given by Moses but directly by God, coupled with a new temple. With this program the Temple Scroll offers a glimpse of a Jewish group critically questioning more widespread Jewish beliefs.
