Description
Summary:The most banal explanation as to why M was baptised in a Methodist church, is the one proposed by his younger brother and publicly known for the last 30 years: he wanted to be admitted to university. Sergej Avérincev, for example, has embraced this theory. The author re-examines the question, using documents about the spread of Methodism in Russia, some of which have not been considered before. De Michelis notes that Russian Judaism has a long history of interest in Protestantism, especially in Methodism.
