Description
Summary:"Church needs thought, provided faith be coherent with itself. Church needs a thought which tries to direct itself to faith, provided it aims to announce responsibly the Gospel to the world". Card. Lehmann takes his start from these premises in his report on "The duty of theology and Church in modern society". Theology as a science, handing over the faith, "has the duty to highlight the lawfulness of Christian message towards human reason and secular world. This function is radically connected with the testimonial and missionary nature of a message that theology does share". Hence risks and changes of the institutionalization of theological teaching today. Even if the theological reflection works first of all for the revelation and the faith, nevertheless it is helpful also to the modern society "highlighting its identity, its origin, its present and future" though the modern society aims at marginalizing it.
