| Summary: | Strangely enough, until now, no commentator seems to have noticed the full import of Paul's unambiguous statements in 1 Co 16,1 ; 2 Co 8 & Rm. 15,25-27 regarding the collection for the poor of Jerusalem. It is quite clear however that the participation of the Churches of Achaia and Macedonia to this undertaking was not solicited but truly spontaneous. It follows that the only place where Paul had taken the initiative of organising a collection was the land of Galatia. It is thus possible to confirm definitely several viewpoints already put forward by some authors concerning the significance of this collection in Paul's mind, the date of the Letter to the Galatians and some other points concerning Paul's chronology. Such questions are considered in the above lines in dialogue with an article previously written by A.J.M. Wedderburn. |
