Summary:This article treats the theme of the relationship between forgiveness and ethics against the background of how society in the breadth of its culture deals with this question. The point of departure is the deep violation of the human person through sexual abuse. Dealing with the questions that arise from analyzing this problem, the possibilities and limitations posed by the Christian tradition are examined, especially where it concerns the question of providing forgiveness as well as doing justice to the victim.
