Summary: | The authors discuss the text, language, and contents of the first of the "Songs of David", found in the Cairo Genizah. This song is an alphabet acrostic, praising God's loyalty towards King David. Comparison with other Jewish writings led to the conclusion that this psalm could well originate in the later period of Qumran. This period had a positive attitude to King David and is known for its production of liturgical manuscripts. The authors assume that the "Songs of David" found their way from Qumran to Cairo, as did CD, and suggest the siglum CšD (šîrē Dawîd). |
