Summary: | The rites of passage (Kasualien) have emerged as one of the main topics in research of German practical theology in the last years. Many people, not only church members, show a keen interest in them and are participating in them. These rites seem to be a good example for contextualization of Christian religion. But as a closer look reveals, there are as many problems in the history of this issue, e.g. the undefined object and the changing perspectives of research, as in the personal practise today. ¶Therefore the author tries to construct a stable framework for the most important rites of passage following the ecumenical method of contextualization as it was published in the Nairobi Statement of the Lutheran World Federation. A theory of Christian rites of passage is developed on the basis of baptism. Finally, some examples are presented how to interprete and shape rites of passage. |
