| Sumario: | Reconstructing the origin of a biblical text is only one and not the first step in biblical exegesis. The understanding of biblical texts in the context of the Bible is a method of its own, labeled here "biblische Auslegung" (biblical interpretation). It reflects the process of reading (a reader-oriented approach), focuses on the text, not the hypothetical author (a text-centered approach), and gauges the "limits of interpretation." Within these limits, texts offer a variety of meanings, since the context (here, the biblical canon) and the variety of readers contribute to the constitution of sense. Thus, "understanding" is never finished, and "biblical interpretation" remains an ongoing process. |
