Summary: | Many Christians have deepened and expanded their understanding of the centrality of the Eucharist in their lives through various forms of spirituality inspired by the Eucharist and expressed in diverse forms of devotion to the Eucharist. Through biblical and theological sources, this present study explores the theology that undergirds what it considers a transformative Eucharistic spirituality for the Church and for the contemporary world. In so doing, it seeks to propose a cohesive paradigm capable of assimilating the often-disparate attitudinal, ministerial, and devotional elements associated with Eucharistic spirituality and devotion. This paper proposes that these diverse expressions of Eucharistic spirituality and devotion may be integrated within a Eucharistic theology of Christic servanthood. It contends that such a theology may serve not only to undergird the breadth of Eucharistic spirituality, but also to inspire new forms of Eucharistic devotion in terms of active and inclusive ministry in the Church. |
