Description
Summary:After Foucault, it has become possible to study human sexuality not only as a natural phenomenon, but as historically conditioned social constructs as well. From this perspective, human sexuality is perceived as part of an ever-changing ethical discourse. There is no doubt that the term "heterosexuality" today refers to realities within our North-Atlantic culture. But while "essentialists" would regard these realities as "hard positive facts", "constructionists" see them as a result of particular acculturation processes. We are acculturated into historically given sexuality systems which seem natural to us until we begin to compare them with other systems, in which the categories are different from our own.
