Summary: | This contribution discusses two neglected testimonies about Polycarp of Smyrna, a homily of a Pseudo-Chrysostom and an epitome of the life and death of Polycarp. It is argued that these witnesses might contain elements about traditions on Polycarp's life and martyrdom that are not to be recognised in the Vita Polycarpi nor in the Martyrium Polycarpi, and as such contribute to the hagiographical image of the saint. |
