Description
Summary:This essay considers ways in which the academic discipline of social ethics, and of social justice in particular, can better inform and be informed by public life. It offers "five rules" for how the teaching of social ethics might change in order to accomplish these ends. The rules address both theoretical and practical shortcomings in the teaching of social justice. The essay ends with an appeal for "theoretical minimalism" that gives pedagogical priority to actual suffering and death rather than to unnecessarily complex abstraction.
