Summary: | The relationship between security and the Catholic Church in Argentina has a controversial history that has gone through several stages. In the last 60 years, Argentina has been the prey of diverse ideologies that ended with bitter fruits. Some of these ideologies, especially the one that led to the last military dictatorship, were fed by the so-called Doctrine of National Security that worked at a theoretical and practical level as a sort of remedy for the evil that, according to the diagnosis of military governments and the hierarchy of the Church, afflicted the Nation: Marxism and communism. Decades later, the Church seems to have learned from its own history expanding its concept of security. It is no longer about caring for human beings with 'strange' ideologies, but rather about taking care of them in their fundamental rights. Some current examples show the turn of the Church in relation to security. |
