The initial decisions on the issue were taken in the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) in 1998. In accordance with the Swedish constitution, the bills amending the constitution as well as the replacement of the former Church Act by the Act on Religious Communities and the Church of Sweden Act were passed twice, first in the spring of 1998 and second, after the general parliamentary election, in the autumn of the same year |
