| Summary: | The article delves into the figure of John the "beloved disciple" chosen as the icon for the XV Synod of Bishops on the theme: «Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment» (Rome, 5-28 October 2018). The article aims at accompanying the reader on a biblicalpedagogical itinerary of «vocational discernment» characterized by five steps in the Gospel according to John: 1) «Come and see» (1,39); 2) «Who is it, Lord?» (Jn 13,24); 3) «Woman, behold your son» (Jn 19,26); 4) «He saw and believed» (Jn 20,8); 5) «It is the Lord» (Jn 21,7). Through analysis of these texts and the theological spiritual message they contain, the relevance of the spiritual journey emerges as well as the richness of the vocational dimension of the figure of John.
