Description
Summary:Through an analysis of the case of a marabout confronted with the "breakup of the electoral ndige͏l" during the 2000 elections, the author scrutinizes the thesis of the secularization of the political domain in Senegal. The ndige͏l's noncompliance is indicative of an increasing overlap between religion and politics in the imaginary of many youths. Modou Kara's entrance into political competition is a sign of both the transformation of urban youth into "citizen-talibe' and the internal reconfiguration of the Mouride brotherhood. (Polit afr/DÜI)
