Description
Summary:What are the foundations for moral teaching in the Gospel of Matthew? This article argues that Matthew tries to found the ethics of the Gospel not only on the question of discipleship, but that he sees Christian moral action firmly rooted within the tra ditions of the Jewish Law. Particularly the Antitheses of the Sermon on the Mount are interpreted as evidence for Matthew's attempt to formulate a Christian code of behavior on the basis of the Law. In this Matthew follows a pattern of thought that is evident in his treatment of the Gentile mission as well.
