Description
Summary:Galatians 3:6-9 has long vexed interpreters, not least because Paul, to substantiate justification by faith, quotes a verse that speaks o f neither justification nor faith. Richard B. Hays attributes the difficulties to the traditional view that ... refers to human faith, and he suggests instead that it refers to Christ's faith(fulness). In this article, 1 answer specific points o f Hays's argument and then trace Paul's line of reasoning in Gal 3:6-9 following the common view that Abraham parallels believers in Christ. To appreciate Paul's use of Scripture and the conclusions he draws requires understanding the concept o f the metaphorical father-son relationship he introduces in v. 7.
