Summary: | This article argues that the Genesis Jacob narratives must be recognized as an Ephraimitic text that originated in the northern kingdom of Israel during the early to mid-eighth century b.c.e. They were written as a means of reflecting on Israel's earlier subjugation to Aram during the late ninth century b.c.e . and the loss of Edom. I begin with analysis of the final P form of Genesis and the Jacob narratives in an attempt to demonstrate how the early E material may be identified within later P and J strata. |
