| Summary: | This essay explores the role of religion in the promotion of violence and of healing in human communities. Building on the work of Hent de Vries, it explores contemporary discussion of this question in the thought of Kierkegard, Derrida, and Levinas. The author contends that Lonergan’s reflection on the agency of the supernatural in the reversal of decline and in development of human progress provides an important insight into the way past the 'limit situation' of violence described by Levinas. The experience of violence points to both human responsibility and the liberating role of grace in ethical decision-making. Cet article explore le rôle de la religion dans la promotion de la violence et de la guérison dans les communautés humaines. Prenant comme point de départ les explorations de Hent de Vries, il explore la pensée de Kierkegard, Derrida et Levinas. L’auteure affirme que la réflexion de Lonergan, sur l’action du surnaturel dans le renversement du déclin ainsi que dans le développement du progrès humain, nous aide à mieux cerner la manière dont on «dépasse» la «situation limite» de la violence décrite par Levinas. L’expérience de la violence nous met devant la responsabilité humaine et le rôle libérateur de la grâce dans la prise de décision éthique. |
