| Summary: | Die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von Moral und Religion ist gerade gegenwärtig von großer Bedeutung, vor allem auch in politischer Hinsicht. Der Autor erörtert diese Frage in philosophisch-theologischer Absicht und stellt eine Verhältnisbestimmung von Moral und Religion zur Diskussion. Im ersten Teil des Beitrags werden zwei verbreitete Grundannahmen zum Verhältnis von Moral und Religion kritisiert; im zweiten Teil wird ein Vorschlag präsentiert, wie man das Verhältnis zwischen Moral und christlichem Glauben angemessen verstehen kann. Hauptthese ist, dass Religion bzw. der christliche Glaube eine Befreiung zu wahrhaft moralischem Handeln darstellt, dass aber die Inhalte einer kritischen Moral bereits mit der „natürlichen“ Vernunft zugänglich sind und als solche nicht Gegenstand einer göttlichen Offenbarung sein können The relationship between morality and religion is an important issue, especially with regard to current political questions. The author addresses the problem of how to conceive of properly this relationship and tries to provide a possible answer as a proposal for debate. In the first part of his essay he criticizes two prevailing assumptions regarding morality and religion, whereas in the second part he puts forward a proposal for understanding the relationship of morality to Christian faith in an appropriate way. The thesis is that Religion and the Christian faith respectively is liberating to act in a truly moral way. However, the contents of a critical morality are already accessible by “natural” reason and, thus, cannot be understood as being part of divine revelation |
