Description
Summary:The enouncement, based on faith, of the New Testament about our being children of God is pursued. It can be considered as a theological pronounciation in the area of grace, which summarizes what happened in Christ. Therefore, we find in many places that the Fathers of the Church speak about our being children of God. They defend this tenet even in front of a platonic interpretation of the divinization of man. However, in modern times many nontheological reservations against this pronounciation of faith have emerged, especially coming from the side of philosophy and psychology. Some important textual witnesses of this are represented and are shown to presume that speaking about being a child of God for a christian means an unadult relationship between God and man. If we undertake an elaboration of the two poles of "me" and "the other" in the context of a theory about the subject, we shall be able to point to the quality of freedom, which is involved in a theological discourse about being a child of God. The hypostatical union in Jesus Christ can be shown to be a cornerstone in theology, if we want to conceive thus a theological theory of the subject. In this theology both the experience of God and of the self will find an important place.
