Summary: | The train of Alexander in the East, which led first to Egypt and then all the way to India on the Syro-Palestinian land bridge that has been deeply imprinted in the memory of the West - just think of the mosaic from the Casa del fauna in Pompeii or Alexander the rich medieval literature. The Old Testament contains only a single document in which the Macedonian ruler is explicitly called. The search for the footsteps of Alexander leads to the issue of Israel's encounter with the rulers of his environment and thus to a central area of altte-Testament Theology History in general. This chapter looks at the narrative of Josephus about the encounter with Alexander the Jewish High Priest, and general theoretical considerations to Alexander as a "memory figure" in the context of the Old Testament and Early Jewish Theology History. |
