Summary: | The perception of what constitutes a dialogue is not advanced by the current inflationary uns of the word. Concerning the process of dialogue which the German Conference of Catholic Bishops proclaimed, many also ask who really wants a dialogue. But what is a "real" dialogue? It seems that the attitude, the spirit in which a dialogue is carried out, is more important than the specification of detailed results which of course cannot be anticipated beforehand. This is not the same as a plea für an exhortation along the lines of "we are of course all brothers and sisters," but a vote for a theological reflection on the Holy Spirit who, as the Spirit of life, justice, truth and freedom, takes all people seriously as subjects of faith and opens them to renewal (and to new things!).
