Some new communities were quite easily accredited as religions - as Baptist, separated Protestant, deutschkatholische or Catholic-apostolic communities. Others weren't legally accepted as religions - as theosophical societies, Christian Science, Latter Day Saints or the first Buddhists in Germany. As for their wish to gain the state of a legal person to own property and real estate, to employ staff, or to act officially in many ways, they had the opportunity to be accredited as non-commercial association (eingetragener Verein). But because of the fact, that legislation reserved this state for non-religious communities on ly, the candidates formulated non-religious aims for their associations to meet the requirements. Since 1900, associations are the normal way for new religions to socialize - be they registered or not. Their voluntary ambience was seen as chance and risk: They never reached a high level of obligation from their members and were quite fluid social entities. But because of this fluidity they also bear a high potential of cultural and religious dynamics. | ||
