| Summary: | Close to the end of the 19th century the first investigations on the relationship between the Biblical Hittites and North Syria and Anatolia took place. Due to the excavations, starting in 1906 in the Hittite capital, further materials for research came to our disposal. This introductory paper sketches the state of research and presents the scope of questions which were raised by the different papers in this volume; looking across the borders of Israel helps to discover those dynamics which influence also the course of the history of religion in Israel. Bereits im späten 19. Jahrhundert wurden gelegentlich Verbindungen zwischen den biblisch benannten „Hethitern“ und Nordsyrien bzw. Kleinasien hergestellt, wobei die seit 1906 statt-findenden Ausgrabungen in der Hauptstadt des Hethiterreiches neue Fragemöglichkeiten hinsichtlich solcher Beziehungen aufwerfen. Neben einem kurzen Forschungsüberblick skizziert der einleitende Beitrag weiterführende Fragen und Impulse, die in den einzelnen Aufsätzen aufgeworfen werden, um dadurch den Blick über die Grenzen Israels hinaus für Prozesse, die die Religionsgeschichte Israels beeinflussten, zu schärfen. |
