| Summary: | The paper is a study comprising different aspects of this most complicated problem. The first section, which is entitled "The weight of religion and religious faith in the experience of Albanian society" mentions the recent awakening of religious feeling in Albania, and stresses the importance of different religions in the affirmation of national values and the birth of Albanian written literature. There is pointed out that due to the similar stand adopted in different political circumstances, all religions are to be treated together in relation with their respective social impact in Albanian society. The great weight of the traditional canon of rights and duties, which confers all individual liberty to every Albanian, which is "magna charta libertatum" for Albanian traditional society is underlined. The author holds the view, that the spreading of Catholicism has defended Albania from the political pressure exerted by Greeks and Byzantines. Islamism has stopped the nationalistic Slav pretensions, the declaration of autocephalia of the Albanian Orthodox Church has saved the sincere faith towards Orthodoxy and also national independence.
