Description
Summary:In the last decade, the ecumenical relations between the Catholic and Protestant Christianity have been very strained. While on this side the exclusive "subsistence" of the "only church of Christ" in the Roman Catholic Church was impressed upon its members, on the other side there was an increasing tendency to retreat once again to the principle of "sola scriptura", interpreted as "distinguishingly protestant". The theology of Christian mysticism - especially since the late Middle Ages - has got round these supposed differences. The two authors show that the doctrinal misgivings about mysticism can easily be refuted as historically conditioned on both sides, so that the mystic experience can now reveal its extraordinary potential to promote ecumenical development.
