| Summary: | During Trajan’s Parthian war the Jews of Egypt, Cyrenaica and Cyprus rose up in rebellion. Fanaticised by eschatological hopes and driven by messianic leaders, the rebels attacked their non-Jewish fellow citizens and destroyed the pagan sanctuaries. The once thriving Jewish diaspora was wiped out when the rebellion was put down by the Roman authorities; only in Alexandria a part of the Jewish community survived the disaster. Während Trajans Partherkrieg erhoben sich die Juden in Ägypten, Kyrenaika und Zypern. Durch endzeitliche Hoffnungen fanatisiert gingen die Aufständischen geleitet von messianischen Anführern gegen ihre paganen Mitbewohner vor und zerstörten deren Heiligtümer. Die einst blühende Diaspora wurde bei der Niederschlagung des Aufstandes vernichtet. Nur in Alexandria überstand ein Teil die Katastrophe. |
