Description
Summary:The treaty De tolerantia ecclesiastica et civili was published in Pavia in 1783, under the name of Thaddeus Trautmansdorf, a young Austrian Count, studying Theology with Pietro Tamburini. When it was published everybody immediately recognized his teacher's style, by the maturity and complexity of the work. In fact the majority of the scholars in this era attributed it only to Tamburini or, considering the variety of styles in the treaty, to Tamburini and Giuseppe Zola, friend and colleague of Tamburini. This essay demonstrates, using the sources inedited and the publications of that time, that the second author of the treaty was really the student Trautmansdorf, whose sketch was corrected, developed and completed by his professor.
