Description
Summary:The launch of the Baptist Women's League in 1908 coincided with the dramatic growth of the women's suffrage movement. But the tendency of the BWL towards a narrow denominational focus and towards social convention meant that the voices of Baptist women suffragists were muted within the BWL. Examples of Baptist women who adopted the militant methods of the WSPU were very few. However, the later rise of ‘spiritual militancy' amongst non-militant suffragists led to Baptist women becoming more numerous and more vocal in their support for ‘votes for women'.
