Description
Summary:This article explores from a psychological standpoint the possible conflict of loyalty in the child between religious convictions and scientific knowledge. This tension and the neutrality prescribed in schools mostly give rise to a discourse in which divergences are minimised or even masked to avoid threatening the child's emotional security. Experience and research show, however, that contradictions that are well defined in their context generate less anxiety in children because they can process them cognitively. Based on works on the development of social competences and in particular theory of mind, the possibility of naming divergent positions is presented as the means of alleviating the conflict of loyalty: this exploration could enable the child to understand the diversity of points of view, at least as regards scientific knowledge and beliefs.
