Description
Summary:The preacher in the Pentecostal church plays an essential role in the life of the community. They are not only a communicator of the vision and direction of the church, they are also an interpreter of scripture for those they are leading. This paper will explore the central role of the Pentecostal preacher through the lens of Marshall McLuhan’s claim that the medium is the message. We will compare the modern preacher with the lector of the earliest Christian communities suggesting that both are mediums that convey the message of scripture. By examining the roles and responsibilities of the ancient lector we are able to identify the corresponding roles and responsibilities of preachers today.
