Summary: | This paper discusses whether Gregory the Great's (540-604) notion of consideratio as a framework for theological reflection could aid reflective practice and reflexivity towards better pastoral care. Consideratio was formulated by Gregory and used in Regula Pastoralis (Pastoral Rule) as a tool for reflective practice and reflexivity. The concept is monastic at root: a call to a balance between the inward and the outward life. In further exploring and analysing consideratio alongside other theological reflection methods, and endeavouring to build an appropriate evaluative process and framework to assess specific pastoral situations, this article proposes that the Gregorian notion of consideratio does offer a useful framework for theological reflection, and may adequately aid reflective practice and reflexivity towards better pastoral care, thus engendering renewal of praxis. |
