Description
Summary:From the prophet Nehemiah to philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre's assertion that moral rational living requires reflective communities of tradition - notably those of the historic churches - community organizing is arguably foundational in pursuing society's just flourishing. This article relates and develops the presentation by Jonathan Cox, Deputy Director of Citizens UK and Lead Organizer of Citizens Cymru Wales, of how community organizing, encompassing both contemplation and action, has found traction in Cardiff, with Christian individuals and churches playing a prominent role. Reverend Jesse Smith, the parish priest of Caerau with Ely, and Dave Horton, Development Manager of Action in Caerau and Ely, added reflections on their own experiences; and Reverend Canon Dr Sarah Rowland Jones, the parish priest of Cardiff City Centre, whose academic interests include Christian engagement in the public arena, contributed some theoretical perspectives.
