Description
Summary:This article provides an introduction to Jean-Luc Nancy's project on the "deconstruction of Christianity" by situating his work philosophically and historically. The author explains that Nancy's work on religion does not provide a new "theory" for the study of religion but shows how Western religious and philosophical foundations are caught up in a process of decomposition that has been brought about by Christianity. Strictly speaking, Nancy's work is not even an analysis of religion but builds upon the broader critique of metaphysical nihilism that thinkers like Nietzsche, Heidegger, and Derrida have taken up in the past.
