| Summary: | The latest revision of the Lutheran Bible, published in time for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, is under the motto »More Luther«. It is, however, to be asked whether this corresponds to the intention of Martin Luther, who wanted to deliberately translate the Bible into the language of his time, and thereby decisively shaped it. Neither the German language nor Bible studies have stood still since the 16th century. For this reason many revisions of the Lutheran bible have been published since the end of the 19th century. Even though the present revision has more strongly reverted to Luther’s language in the main text, the revision nevertheless takes account of the linguistic and, above all, the exegetical developments in the paratexts. However, this doesn’t solve the problem of understanding the biblical text in the language of today. |
